Myth of Empires: Open World Survival Game Review

I’ve spent 28 hours in “Myth of Empires,” a game that refuses to be boxed into one category. Imagine taking bits of “Conan Exiles,” “ARK: Survival Evolved,” and “Black Desert Online,” then blending them into a gaming smoothie. That’s “Myth of Empires” for you – a mishmash of survival, strategy, and role-playing elements that somehow works.

Myth of Empires: First Impressions

Jumping into the game, my first thoughts were a mix of excitement and confusion. The vast world in front of me was daunting. It’s as if the game whispered, “Here’s a massive sandbox; now go figure it out.” And figure it out, I did. The game sets you loose in a PvP/PvE environment, challenging you to survive, build, and conquer.

One aspect that caught me off guard was the game’s mission system, a feature not common in survival titles. Suddenly, I wasn’t just fighting to survive; I was on a quest, earning extra XP and jumping levels faster than a rabbit chased by a hungry wolf.

The Gameplay of Myth of Empires

The core gameplay mechanics are familiar yet refined. You start small, gathering resources, crafting basic tools, and slowly building your way up to a fortified base. Farming and taming animals are part of your daily grind, reminiscent of “ARK,” but with an ease that’s welcoming to newcomers.

What sets this game apart is its army-building feature. As you progress, you can recruit soldiers who not only guard your base but also follow you across the map. This feature is a game-changer, offering protection against sudden attacks by other players and making large-scale NPC village raids not only possible but thrilling.

Combat, although a tad sluggish, grows on you. There’s a depth to mastering it, as increasing your proficiency in fighting can potentially lead to quicker, more agile movements and attacks. The hitboxes do need some tweaking, especially when hunting those elusive foxes, but it’s a small gripe in an otherwise immersive experience.

Myth of Empires: The World

Exploration is rewarding thanks to the game’s sheer scale. Venturing from your starting point takes courage as the game world is not just big; it’s colossal. What begins as a struggle against every wild beast soon becomes an adventure, with you conquering tougher areas as your skills and army grow.

This gradual progression is at the heart of “Myth of Empires.” It doesn’t hand you victories but makes you earn them, inch by grueling inch. Establishing a fully functioning base, complete with workbenches and a formidable army, marks the beginning of true exploration across its massive map.

Myth of Empires: PvP and PvE

I ventured into both PvE and PvP waters. PvE offers a robust, challenging experience without the constant threat of other players. It’s the perfect playground for those who prefer building and exploration over conflict. PvP, on the other hand, is a different beast. Every encounter is a pulse-racing moment where strategy and quick thinking are your best allies. Both modes have their charms and challenges, catering to a wide array of player preferences.

“Myth of Empires” shines in its community aspect. Whether joining forces with friends or navigating the politics of guilds, the game encourages teamwork. Solo play is possible, but be prepared for a grind. This game is designed with cooperation in mind, making those shared victories all the sweeter.

The Bad Things

No game is without its faults, and “Myth of Empires” has a few. The English translation is rough, often leading to confusion. Server regions aren’t locked, leading to overcrowded spots and dominance by certain player groups (looking at you, Chinese guilds). Combat, while innovative, can feel clunky, and the game suffers from a severe lack of musical ambiance.

Moreover, the game has ventured into microtransactions, a worrying trend, especially if it leans towards pay-to-win. The content available online is sparse, leaving players to discover much of the game mechanics by trial and error – a daunting task.

Verdict

So for my final opinion… for anyone liking survival games with open world “Myth of Empires” is for sure worth getting into. With some polishing and focus on optimization, this game has the potential to become a classic in the genre. Let’s hope for that.
