Forever Skies is a game that caught my attention right away. You play as a scientist returning to a ruined Earth, flying through the skies on a high-tech airship. The planet is in bad shape due to an ecological disaster, and your goal is to survive, collect resources, upgrade your ship, and search for a cure for a mysterious illness. The concept is really unique, and I quickly got hooked on the gameplay. And the best thing is that it’s constantly getting updated from the devs.
At first, it reminded me of Subnautica – both games are about exploration and survival, but Forever Skies has a very different feel. Instead of being underwater, you’re floating high above a ruined Earth, scavenging for materials to keep your airship going and improve it over time. You’ll manage things like hunger, thirst, and energy, but also have to deal with diseases and research cures. I love that extra layer of challenge – it keeps things fresh and interesting.
Airship: the Base
One of the best parts of the game is your airship, which acts as both your home and your vehicle. You can fully customize it, adding new rooms, floors, windows, and even gardens. By the end of my time with the game, my tiny one-room ship had turned into a large, multi-level flying base. It felt really satisfying to see my progress reflected in the ship, and I spent hours tinkering with it.
What’s really fun is that your airship can go anywhere. You’re not stuck in one spot like you are in other base-building games. It gives you a sense of freedom and makes exploring more exciting. Plus, the customization options make it feel truly personal.
The Skies
The world of Forever Skies is calm yet dangerous. The sky is filled with floating debris, old ruins, and strange objects that you need to explore. You’ll use a laser beam to collect materials from floating bubbles, catch insects to make food, and purify rainwater to drink. The game is slow-paced, but that’s part of its charm. It’s not about fighting monsters or constant action, but about surviving and exploring at your own pace.
There’s always something new to discover, whether it’s a hidden base or a blueprint to improve your ship. The more you explore, the more options you have to upgrade and expand your airship. I loved venturing into new areas and finding out what secrets they held. Each location had its own story, adding depth to the world.
The Downsides
While Forever Skies is a great game, it does have some issues. The map can be confusing at times, and the objectives aren’t always clear, which left me feeling lost now and then. Inventory management can also be a headache, as you’re often dealing with small stack sizes and limited storage space. It would be nice to have a way to drop unwanted items or get rid of clutter more easily.
Additionally, the game is still in early access, so there isn’t a huge amount of content yet. After about 6-8 hours, I had done most of what the game currently offers. That said, the developers have laid out plans for future updates, including co-op gameplay and more story content, so there’s a lot to look forward to.
Forever Skies: Overall, Forever Skies is a relaxing but engaging survival game with a lot of potential. The airship-building mechanic is a standout feature, and I loved the freedom it gave me to explore and create. While there are some rough edges, like confusing objectives and limited inventory space, the game’s calm atmosphere and unique gameplay kept me hooked.
