Hitman: World of Assassination on PSVR2: Review

I’ve been a Hitman fan for years. The stealth, the creativity, the sheer joy of dropping a chandelier on an unsuspecting target it’s always been a great fun honestly. But playing it in VR? That’s a whole new level of immersion. But in Hitman 3 VR I wasn’t satisfied.

But now after spending hours sneaking, stabbing, and occasionally bumbling my way through missions on PSVR 2, I can confidently say: This is the best Hitman VR experience yet.

Right when you start the game, you notice the difference. This isn’t the blurry mess from the old PSVR version. Locations like the sunny coast of Sapienza or the busy streets of Miami look great in VR. Is it as sharp as playing on a PS5? No – the graphics are a bit less detailed. But for a VR version this big, the lighting, the detail, and the feeling of being inside the world are really impressive. I even caught myself just standing on a balcony in Dubai, staring at the clouds and forgetting I had a job to do. The scale of everything feels huge.

Using the Controllers

The biggest change is how it plays. The PSVR 2 Sense controllers make a big difference. You reload your guns by actually doing it – taking out the empty clip, grabbing a new one, and loading it. It sounds small, but it makes everything feel more real, especially during tense moments.

Unlocking doors? You move your lockpick with your hands. Got a keycard? You swipe it yourself. Crowbar? You really swing it (though sometimes it’s a bit awkward).

Dual-wielding is also really fun. Sure, you can go full action-hero with a gun in each hand. But it’s even better throwing two random objects – like a brick and a soda can – to knock out two guards at once. It gives you new ways to play in the usual Hitman style. Throwing things feels great too, with the game helping you aim just enough to make those headshots satisfying.

Not Perfect, But Still Great

Of course, it’s not perfect. Using tools like crowbars or screwdrivers can be a bit clumsy. And in VR, you start noticing stuff that doesn’t stand out on a regular screen – like objects that look grabbable but aren’t. That’s just part of turning a huge flat-screen game into VR; not everything can be touched like in a game built just for VR, like Half-Life: Alyx.

Also, VR changes how Hitman feels. You often need to wait around for guards or timing, and standing still in VR can get boring. Luckily, the game switches to third-person for things like climbing or blending in, which helps avoid motion sickness and gives your eyes a break.

Opinion

After a few days playing in VR, I feel refreshed. I’ve spent many hours with Hitman before, but this feels new. Exploring places like Paris, Miami, and Berlin in VR makes it feel like I’m seeing them for the first time. The added immersion makes stealth more personal, and getting that perfect ‘Silent Assassin’ rating feels even better.

What’s Great:

  • You really feel like Agent 47
  • Cool, hands-on controls like reloading and picking locks
  • Great-looking environments for VR
  • Tons of content – all three main games are included
  • Familiar missions feel brand new

And not great:

  • Graphics aren’t as sharp as the PS5 version
  • Some actions are a bit clunky
  • Standing still can get tiring
  • Not everything can be touched or used
  • Some extra modes and missions are missing (for now)

Compared to Other Games?
Way better than the first VR version. Not as polished as flat-screen Hitman, but way more immersive. Compared to other VR shooters? The gunplay is surprisingly good, especially with how you reload and throw things.

Should You Buy It?
Absolutely. If you already have PSVR 2 and the base Hitman game, this $10 add-on is totally worth it. It turns a familiar game into something fresh and exciting. Even if you’ve never played Hitman, this is one of the best and biggest VR experiences out there right now.

Hitman: World of Assassination PSVR2: IO Interactive finally nailed it. Despite a few small issues, this is the best way to play Hitman in VR – and one of the best reasons to use your PSVR 2. Tom Henry
