Len’s Island: Review

Len’s Island from the Flow Studio is a game that surprised me. It doesn’t have a huge online following yet, but it quickly became one of my favorite ways to spend an evening. It’s like a mix of different things I enjoy: exploring a pretty open world, building a cool base, and fighting some monsters.

The first thing that struck me was the art style. It’s bright and colorful, with different areas of the island feeling unique. Lush forests give way to sandy beaches, and there’s even a spooky cave system to explore. Plus, the day and night cycle is beautiful, with the colors changing as the sun sets.

One of the things I love most is building my own base. You can gather materials and put together all sorts of structures, from a cozy cabin to a sprawling castle. It’s a fun way to express yourself and create a safe haven in this wild world.

There are also some dangers lurking around. You’ll need to fight monsters to defend yourself and your base. The combat is pretty straightforward, but it can be challenging at times, especially for players who don’t like fighting much.

Thankfully, there’s a peaceful mode that lets you focus on the exploration and building aspects. However, it might be a little too easy for some. Ideally, there could be a difficulty setting in between peaceful and normal, offering a bit of a challenge without being overwhelming.

It’s important to remember that Len’s Island is still in Early Access. This means there are some bugs here and there, especially as your world gets bigger. But the developers seem very responsive and are constantly fixing things and adding new content. They clearly care about the game and its players.

While I don’t mind using the keyboard and mouse, the controller support could be improved. It would be nice to be able to do everything with the controller, like using the analog stick for smoother movement. But the good news is the developers are already working on this.

Despite a few minor issues, Len’s Island is a charming and immersive game that offers a lot of variety. Whether you want to relax and explore, build a dream base, or fight some monsters, there’s something for everyone. With ongoing updates and a passionate development team, I’m excited to see what it will become after the Early Access period.
